Signs & Wonders
By R. Reese Fuller July 31, 2002
Greg Kerr runs small ads in the local newspapers with his photo
and his phone number. He’s dressed in a white suit with long
brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and a long, flowing gray
beard. The ad says he is “An Anointed Cherub” and that he’s
“Blessed by Jesus Christ with the gift to heal any pain or
disease!” He looks like he’s in ZZ Top, not like he’s in the healing
business.

Times’ photographer Terri Fensel and I drove to his home in
Opelousas. I wanted to find out what kind of man would make
such claims and back them with advertising.

Kerr lives in a small brick house with a spacious yard on the
edge of a field. As we pull into the driveway, a crop duster flies
overhead and a mule brays in the distance. A sporty black
Mercedes sits in the driveway. I make some wisecrack to Terri
about how well the healing business must be paying these days.

Kerr’s wife, Louella, answers the door. She is soft-spoken and
shakes our hands gingerly before inviting us into the house. In
the living room, silk flowers are intertwined in two metal arbors.
Pieces of a beige sectional leather couch form a half-circle,
next to a recliner and an open Bible resting on a stand. There
are inspirational sayings written on plaques hanging on the
walls. Soothing pan flutes from a small stereo system in the
corner of the room mingling with the sweetly perfumed air.

It’s almost too much to handle, and there are knots in the pit of
my stomach.

Sign and Wonders
By Karla Wall January 11, 2019
A lot has changed since my first visit with faith healer Greg
Kerr in 2002.
The white-walled home chapel in Opelousas with the
twinkling-light-adorned trellis, sweet potpourri-scented air,
and soft pan flute music has been replaced as Kerr’s ministry
headquarters by a huge, spartan warehouse building in
Lafayette. Kerr’s hair and beard, both still long and
reminiscent of Biblical prophets, are grayer.
But the eyes haven’t changed one iota. They’re still piercing
and mesmerizing; still seeming to be filled with knowledge
and vision that most of us can’t imagine. The eyes are the
same as when I gazed into them, feeling something akin to
terror, on our first visit 16 years ago.

Opelousas Man Greg Kerr
Says God Gave Me the Power
to Heal
By Shari Puterman December 12, 2018
After taking a break from the spotlight, Greg is back in action
at a warehouse in Lafayette, where he holds regular healing
sessions for the public to attend.
This is something, he says, that one must experience in order
to believe.
'It didn't hit me like a train'
“I wasn’t born with it,” Greg says. “It didn’t hit me like a train. I
completely surrendered myself to God.”
Greg describes this power as being the same force God used
to heal the sick.
“There is a power and energy that comes out of my hands,
and I can feel it," he explains. "I refer to it as energy – but it’s
the spirit of God.”
August 1996: ‘I was trying to go someplace I didn’t even know
existed’ Greg looks back to August 1996, when he claims to
have first received this power. He had just returned from a
healing service in St. Louis where, according to him, a blueish-
grey haze appeared.
“When I came home,” Greg explains, “the cloud was still there.
It lasted three days. My wife, Louella, and my daughter could
see it, too. It was like a fog … and this incredible peace was
there.”
